Answer: This week’s choropleth depicted the population growth rates of each Iranian province between 2011 and 2016. You can get helpful statistical information about Iran from the Iran Data Portal at Syracuse University.

The three fastest growing provinces have been South Khorasan (+16.1%), Bushehr (+12.6%), and Hormozgan (+12.6%). Overall, Iran’s population is growing quite fast, but two provinces have actually lost people: North Khorasan (-0.5%) and Hamadan (-1.1%). On this map, each darker shade of green corresponds to a 3% increase in population.
